This bird alighted on a branch next to the trail but immediately took off once it realised our presence so there was no opportunity to get a better angle.

Status is classified as Least Concern. Formerly part of Black-throated Trogon but now considered a separate species Northern Black-throated Trogon by most authorities. Also known as Graceful Black-throated Trogon. For more information on this bird species see the following links:

Northern / Graceful Black-throated Trogon Trogon tenellus only occurs in Central America so would be the identity assigned to the bird in this image.
