Great White Shark upside down during breach, Mossel Bay, South Africa

This image was taken during the Great White Shark trip organised by Natures Images and led by Mark Sisson. The shark was tempted to attack a decoy seal towed from behind a boat during an early morning trip run by Apex Shark Expeditions of False Bay and led by Chris Fallows. Breaching is a comparatively rare occurrence; only two full breaches were seen during three boat trips though several surface lunges on the decoy were observed. A typical full breach lasts just over one second and often occurs without warning. This is a frame towards the end of the breach sequence. The shark has somersaulted ending up vertical with head down towards the water.
